Bike Adventure in Halifax...

I found myself in Halifax yesterday with a couple of hours to kill.  I was strolling around downtown, looking at people and architecture, when I noticed a bike shop on Barrington Street.  A sign on the window said, "Bikes for Rent."  I couldn't resist.  I had two hours before I had to leave so I asked what the price would be for a two hour rental.  The guy running the shop was surprised that someone was renting a bike in December.  He told me it would be $15.  For me, it was the perfect price.

Across the Highlands MTB Challenge - Update #1

Across the Highlands MTB Challenge,
Chéticamp,  Saturday, July 18th,

Update #1

Well my friends I'm back from Cheticamp after two full days scouting just a few of the zillions of trails and selecting the best ones for the 25 and the 60km rides.  I also met with the local organizers, Nathalie, Stevie, Réjean and other volunteers to continue the promotion of the event, arrange for the camping accommodation nearby, generate some new ideas on what to do in the area before and after AHC '09.

Hope the following narrative and information will answer several of your questions at less than a month before the fun begins.  Apologies for cross-posting...
The Rides of Across the Highlands Challenge 2009
1.  Ultra Marathon, 60km.
2.  Adventure, 25km.
3.  and NEW, the "easier" Far West ride, 25km.
Starting time:  9:00 am.
Note:  For safety measures and also in respect for the generous volunteers, there will be cut-off times.  Your collaboration will be appreciated.
Note 2:  Mileage is approximate to the nearest kilometre...
Starting from the St. Pierre Church's parking lot, all AHC riders will begin the day with a little 500m promotion ride on the Main street of Chéticamp before engaging on an old railroad bed leading to a gypsum quarry nearby.  Ride is rather smooth and easy.
At around Km-2, riding in an open field will be your chance
